Curiosity Fitness

Hi! I’m Kerri, and I believe that our quality of life is just as important as the length of our life. As a fitness trainer with many years of experience working with women over 50, I know that muscle weakness and bone loss can take away the ability to do things we love (and that we need to do to remain independent). But it doesn’t have to be that way – lifting weights can strengthen your muscles and bones, no matter your age.

The good news is that any trainer can show you how to lift weights. The bad news is that most trainers don’t understand the needs and challenges of women my age (nearly 60). The exercise world is full of well-meaning young trainers who focus on short term gains that frequently reflect a “No pain, No gain” philosophy – and this can lead to injuries and burnout. This is why I started Curiosity Fitness.

At Curiosity Fitness, our philosophy is different. We:

1. Listen. We’re curious about what makes you tick, your hopes and fears (related to aging and/or lifting weights), and what injuries or pre-existing conditions that we need to be careful about.

2. Build an individualized training plan for each client. Plans that meet you where you’re at, even if you’re not currently active. Even if you’re lifelong couch potato.

3. Progress gradually with input from you, to help you avoid injuries and develop confidence.

4. Focus on enjoyment. Enjoyment is crucial to long term success, and this idea is backed by research. Trying to stick with something you hate is a losing proposition.

At Curiosity Fitness, we help women to be strong for life by offering training packages that combine traditional personal training with coaching, empathy, practice, and a sprinkle of fun.

Curious? Let’s talk story.

I've been an ACSM Certified Personal trainer since 2005, but like my clients, I struggled to figure out how to make weight lifting a regular part of my routine. After learning about behavior change strategies in my work at the YMCA, I started by taking baby steps. Finally, I was able to establish a habit! In addition to my own experience, I learned so much from the many women I worked with at the YMCA. I've been told I'm a natural teacher, great listener, encouraging, and that I make the process fun.
